In January 2025, a delegation of faculty and students from the School of Nursing at Shanghai Donghai College embarked on a two-week immersive study tour in New Zealand. This program not only provided students with professional medical courses and practical opportunities but also allowed them to gain an in-depth understanding of New Zealand’s healthcare system, nursing career paths, and multicultural environment, laying a solid foundation for their future international careers.
Centered around the theme of “Medical Nursing and Global Perspectives”, the study tour featured a well-rounded curriculum that combined depth and breadth. It focused on three key dimensions, namely professional knowledge, legal frameworks, and humanistic values, to cultivate students’ professional competence within a global context, deeply implant a sense of warmth and compassion essential for healthcare workers, and foster an awareness of international healthcare standards. During the tour, the delegation visited top-tier institutions such as a leading Auckland retirement home, Auckland City Hospital, the School of Nursing at the University of Waikato, and Auckland University of Technology, further experiencing the diverse dimensions of healthcare and nursing.
At the closing ceremony, teachers and students from the School of Nursing at Shanghai Donghai College expressed their heartfelt gratitude: “ The teachers at Bailie College not only warmed our stomachs with cups of ginger tea but also illuminated our path of learning with their expertise and passion. This journey has not only provided opportunities for China-New Zealand nursing collaboration but also strengthened our belief in becoming cross-cultural nursing ambassadors.” Cathy, the Dean of Bailie College, remarked that “Shanghai Donghai College’s students have added vibrant energy to New Zealand’s summer. We look forward to seeing you become bridges of friendship between China and New Zealand and spreading the spark of knowledge far and wide.”
This study tour not only provided students with invaluable international learning opportunities but also served as a model of deep collaboration between the School of Nursing and international institutions in the field of nursing education. Moving forward, the school of nursing will continue to strengthen international exchanges and partnerships, building bridges for more students to pursue global nursing careers and empowering Chinese nursing talents to shine on the world stage.
