Founded in 1993, Shanghai Donghai College (SDC) is one of the earliest full-time private colleges in Shanghai approved by the Ministry of Education to issue national academic credentials. Being a municipal-level characteristic higher vocational college and a model private college in Shanghai, it has been recognized as an “Excellent Private Higher Education Institution in China” and selected as one of the top 100 private education institutions in China.
Shanghai Donghai College has 9 secondary teaching units and offers 27 majors, covering fields such as finance and commerce, equipment manufacturing, transportation, electronics and information technology, healthcare, logistics, arts, journalism and communication, education, and sports. The college is home to 5 Shanghai high-level professional clusters, including Smart Commerce, Fashion Design, Smart Finance, Integrated Circuit Technology, and Film and Animation. Additionally, it has developed 2 national-level high-quality online open courses for vocational education and 3 Shanghai municipal-level high-quality online open courses. It also hosts several national industry-education-research collaborative bases, training bases for teachers and engineers in private colleges, and pilot majors for the Sino-German Advanced Vocational Education Cooperation Project (SGAVE). Furthermore, the college serves as an important training base for modern services and manufacturing in Shanghai, equipped with 16 on-campus training centers and 124 off-campus training bases.
Shanghai Donghai College has more than 760 faculty and staff members, including nearly 400 full-time teachers, among them, over 30% hold senior titles, and over 50% are dual-qualified teachers who possess both theoretical knowledge and practical teaching skills. The college’s teaching and training standards rank among the top of similar institutions in Shanghai, with 12 Shanghai Excellent Teaching Teams and 2 Shanghai Distinguished Teachers. The “Double Hundred Project” has yielded significant results, with 10 Shanghai Excellent Courses and nearly 200 research projects at or above the municipal level.
Currently, there are nearly 8,000 students enrolled in Shanghai Donghai College. It attaches importance to the reform and innovation of vocational education, and strives to explore the teaching mode and methods to improve the quality and level of skilled personnel training. Students have made remarkable achievements in various competitions at the national and municipal levels, including the gold medal in Freight Forwarding in the first China Skills Competition, the 5th place in Fashion Technology, the gold medal in the 46th World Skills Competition, and 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals in the final of the 2024 World Vocational College Skills Competition. It has trained more than 40,000 students, and the employment rate of graduates has been maintained at about 98%, and graduates have been favored by employers for their broad knowledge, high comprehensive quality, strong innovation ability, and sufficient development potential.
The college attaches importance to strengthening communication and exchange with international high-level institutions, introducing high-level international exchange programs tailored to the market demand and students’ interest, broadening their international horizons, enhancing their comprehensive competitiveness, and promoting the internationalization of the college. It has established partnerships with more than 50 countries and regions, such as Germany, Japan, Korea, Britain, Finland, Canada, Malaysia, Egypt, South Africa, Spain, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Taiwan regions of China.
